On the second of March the Sporting Village hosted the Masters Counties. The event was really well supported with clubs from all over Essex and some as far as Cambridge and Bedfordshire.
Basildon had 9 swimmers taking part this year. Katrina Farrall, Amanda Goodman, Nick Karaiskos, Jason Doe, Peter Chittock, Simon Lashmar, Brad Johnson, Paul Doe, and Calum Hodgson. I must also mention Geoff Baker, Mike Baker and James Grigg who also train with us but swim competitively with another club.
I think all the swimmers will agree it was a really good gala, some personal bests, top 3 placings , Gold Silver and Bronze medals, exciting relays and a great atmosphere.
Some of our masters swimmers have returned to the sport after long gaps. It was great to see their families up in the galleries supporting them. I am sure I heard that one of our squad swimmers watching said “I am faster than you Dad now”. Great motivation to keep going!
Masters numbers on club nights are really good, with a positive attitude towards training sessions. All the sessions are attended by myself and the sets are always varied as I am sure the swimmers would agree with.
